History

Novo Hamburgo Rugby Club (NHRC) was born out of the initiative of some players from the Vale do Sinos, who initially trained with a club called Lançeros Negros located in the city of Canoas, 30 km from Novo Hamburgo.

Motivated by a love of the sport and knowing the potential of the region, Ronaldo Kebach, Israel Sperb, Luis Felipe Ramos, Ibrahim Fragoso and Juliano Marques initiated the club’s activities on October 6th 2007.

The club, at that point still nameless, quickly attracted supporters and interest from people who wanted to know more about a sport that was largely unknown to the general public. From the start, the club had the support of the Group for the Development of Rugby in Rio Grande do Sul (GD/RS) and it didn`t take long for the Club to take form and for its members to choose the Club name, colors and logo.

The club´s name originated from the desire of its athletes to elevate to the highest level, the city which harbored the club from its foundation. Valuing the roots of the club and never forgetting its function in forming citizens and individuals of character were identified as key concepts within the club.
The first demonstration of the athletes’ dedication bared fruit in the team´s debut. Demonstrating the potential of the group, a very important victory was achieved in the very first friendly, a game of Sevens against the development team of Charrua Rugby Club from Porto Alegre.

In April 2008 the Club took part in its first official competition – the 3rd edition of the Gaúcho Rugby Championship – after only eight months of activity. With an already considerable number of athletes, the team stood out in demonstrating great potential.

Thus, guided by indispensable principles such as Honor, Passion, Solidarity, Courage, Discipline and a Sense of Family, NHRC is and always will be an institution with an eye on tomorrow, yet grounded in the present, driven by the aim of providing unconditionally to his associates and community all the benefits of this exciting sport that is Rugby.

Strategic Planning

During the period of Dec/2010 the management board of NHRC worked on the forming of a Strategic Plan. This plan was the result of the exchange of ideas, identification of features statements by the Club made to date and also the goals that the NHRC wants to reach in the coming years.

Vision

To establish NHRC as a club known nationally and internationally that demonstrates the spirit of rugby on and off the field, as well as playing a competitive style of rugby and achieving merit in the competitions played.

Mission

• To create a family environment where people of the Vale do Sinos can get involved with the club and the sport;
• To establish a family where members protect each other on and off the field and where all have equal importance;
• To ensure the development of players, coaches, referees and administrators in a positive environment, seeking knowledge and partnerships nationally and internationally;
• To manage the club in such a way as to ensure its growth and improvement year after year;
• To be a club where its values are lived out day-to-day by its players and management;
